They buried his Pappa on a rainy, grey December morning. The funeral procession wound its way down the narrow path from the castle to the hidden gardens of stone— Skyda, Padalonia’s royal graveyard. So late in the season, no foreign dignitaries were able to attend. So it was only the castle folk, Jared, the Queen, and the omnipresent Omundson. Honoring the old ways, those who could shape fire did so, walking with a flickering ball of flame hovering in their upturned palms as they made their way to the gravesite. The flames were said to represent guiding lights for the spirits of the departed, leading them to their resting place and the hope of renewal in Jogansrule.

Twelve days later the lonely road came to an end at a dilapidated castle high in the mountains. Jared didn’t even know what kingdom they were in, it was so remote. They must have stopped dosing him because his head had finally started to clear as they made the final leg of their journey, up the steep cliff to where the stone fortress clung to the side of the mountain.

SPN Post Finale fics I've loved

candygramme and I, with some help from kusi4, have been keeping our eyes and ears open for any SPN post finale fics coming out on LJ and AO3. There is also a new AO3 tag to search under: Post-Episode: s15e20 Carry On as well as a lot of great works under Forever Wincest Fest.

What has been so utterly amazing about the post finale fics is so many long time SPN authors coming out of SPN retirement to write for the boys. So much talent in this fandom. So many happy tears.

Summary: The Kreeg have taken over and enslaved planet after planet in the Alpha quadrant. One such planet is the once-bountiful planet of Ocacea. Out of desperation he follows the trail of an ancient myth on a quest to save his planet, and kidnaps bootlegger Jared of Vosk to help him. As he digs deeper into Ocacea’s past, he must confront the differences between reality and myth. Is his growing bond with Jared true, or just genetic tampering by the gods?

Explosions rocked the tiny shuttle, throwing Jared sideways in his command chair. Warning lights flashed across the Rumrunner’s main console, and the blare of the alarm filled the tiny cabin.

“Why are we always coming in hot? I’m starting to have a complex about this, Wix.” Jared kicked his foot back, locking the command chair down on so it couldn’t swivel. He didn’t want to be thrown from the helm by another volley. He jabbed at several buttons, one killing the klaxon throughout the shuttle.

Jared woke to a flapping sound, like a flag in the wind. The open flaps on his tent were blowing in the hot desert wind. He squinted, glad of the tent's shade protecting him from the full force of the blazing Ocacean suns. He started to rise, but thought better of it and lay back down. Amazingly enough, his head no longer hurt.

He tried to contact Wix through his comm again, but they still had the AI offline. Jared wasn’t going to be able to take back control of his shuttle that way.

Chapter Four: Aluka

Jen’sen piloted. Jared fumed for most of the trip, his fingers itching to take over the controls of his baby. He spotted Aluka long before setting eyes on the city walls, by the thick plumes of pollution belching skyward. Once they were closer, he could clearly see a green glow surrounding the area, a product of low-grade radiation in the air. Even more visible as the suns set, it formed a toxic, sickly green maelstrom over the city.

Chapter Six: Palish

After triple-checking their defenses and adding a couple of new booby traps just in case, Jared was finally satisfied the ship would be safe in their absence. Jen’sen thought the best time to arrive at the bar was in the evening and convinced Jared he should have a nap in the meantime. It didn’t take too much convincing. Jared was exhausted. By the time he got to his cabin, he was half asleep. He was gone before his head hit the pillow.

By the time Jen’sen got him back to the Jolly Roger, Jared was burning up. He wished he could contact Loret’ta, but the radiation surrounding the planet made it impossible to get a comm through. He even briefly debated flying back to Ocacea, but the truth was, Loret’ta would only be making a guess at how to treat Jared. Instead Jen’sen went with his gut and guided Jared’s hover bed to the pool.

With time to kill, they combed through all their intel on the Governor again. Jen’sen showed what he had on Jared’s virtual planning table on the bridge. With a flick of his wrist he pulled up images of the Governor, the temple, his staff. Blueprints of the temple and the altar glowed on the surface of the table screen.
